Mikó-castle The most important ancient monument, historical historical sight of Csíkszereda. It was built in the old center of the town, near to the Olt river. It can be approached from a few ways (Petőfi S. str, Dózsa György str., Nicolae Bălcescu str). Nowadays is the home of the Csíki Székely Museum. The castle was built between 1623-1631, in neorenessance style. The builder was Ferenc Hidvégi Mikó. The castle were built at 6th of may 1631 or a few years earlier. Városháza Vártér nr.1 – City Hall. It was build in 1886 with eclectic style. (From 1879 the offices were at the castle). The City Hall was initiated at 4th of February 1888. In 1913 the building was expanded. Courthouse Dózsa Gy. Str. Nr.6. It was built in 1892, with ecletic style. Petőfi Sándor Str. The bygone girl-highschool, nowadays the Sándor Petőfi Primary School,one-floor building was built in 1891. Remarkable houses in the Sándor Petőfi Str.: 1, 2, 3, 12, 19. 25, 29, 31, 33, 35, 36, 37, 39. These Houses are registered as ancient monuments. Millenniumi római katolikus templom Márton Áron Gimnázium épülete G. Coşbuc Str. Nr. 80 It was built between 1909-1911, with secessionist style. It has 365 rooms. The bygone Roman Catholic High School at 25th May of 1990 was named by Áron Márton bishop. The favour church at Csíksomlyó This church has serious history. The Franciscan order-church and monastery’s first written reference is from 1442. The farewell at Somlyó was approved in 1444 by IV.th Jenő pope.The first church was built by the gifts of János Hunyadi, as gratitude for participation in the war at Marosszentimre of the székely-s from csík. The most famous spectacle is the Virgin Mary- sculpture, which has a few legends. One of these legends says, that the sculpture is from Moldavia, and it was rescued at the time of a Tartar burglary around 1520 into Transylvania. János Hunyadi had it prepared since a victory over the Turkishs according to an other opinion Virgin Mary ascribed his victory to his help. The today’s baroque church was being built between 1802-1825, on the old Gothic church’s place. The Salvator chapel Unknown time was built on the respect of Jesus whipping in time on that of the level Small-Somlyó-Mountain sufferer chapel . Antal Csoboth built the saint Antal chapel upon the memory of his rescue after the 1661. yearly Tartar burglary. The altar planned by Imre Makovecz in the saddle of two Somlyó. It is kept in every year on the Saturday of Whitsun the pilgrim mass. The Kis-Somlyó-Mountain three chapels stand. The Salvator chapel was built on the respect of his oldest, Hunyad 1456 Nándorfehérvár victory. Cultural, celebrities

We have some celebrities here,  the Shrine at Csíksomlyó, in every May,  the days of the city, at the first week-end of august and  the days of the country  with concierts, and other programs.

The bike race is directed in-, and around Csíkszereda, at the begining of juny.

In our museum are famous exhibitions periodically.

Csíkszereda, as center of the world

Csíkszereda is one of the most important solidary for the Hungarian folk.

Here, in every may is a celebration, Whitsun, when all the Hungarians around the world come to the Shrine at Csíksomlyó. (for further information about csíksomlyó click here)

Much people pilgrimizes here, some thousand, Hungarian people around the world come here, even from other continents too.

Of course, for us, for the people who live in, it’s the center of the world, but everyone, who came here said, that will come again.:)
I think, that our town is kinda binding for the Hungarians.

About the town

Here is the little history of Csíkszereda:

Csíkszereda (German:Szeklerburg, Romanian: Miercurea-Ciuc) first was named by  Zsigmond Luxemburg  king, at the beginning of the XV.-th century.

The surrounding country as center of the markets became an himself landlord fortune in 1611, when Gábor Bethlen is transylvanian sovereign has given the marketplace for one of his  székely peer, Ferenc Hídvégi Mikó as a gift, and permitted  the contruction of anfortified accomodation. For the instruction of Ferenc Mikó between 1623 – 1631 they built the  contemporary peer liked living-place renessance fortified castle.

After Ferenc Mikó has died in 1635, the building was inherited by József,who died, and the remain for Ilona Macskási. The widow get merried in 1663 with Tamás Domokos  head official charge in Transylvania. II.-nd György Rákóczi transylvanian sovereign became hostage of Tartars in 1657, where was prisonier for 13 years.

In the forthcoming time, the lordship was given to Gábor Mikó, and became his brother’s property. In 1661 Ali pasha ravaged all along Csíkszereda, and hardly damaged the Mikó castle.

In 1970 it have been it was restored, and since then it’s the property of the Székely Museum of Csík.
